Stosur - who is guaranteed entry to the world's top 10 when the new rankings are released next week - has just beaten Spain's Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez 6-3 7-6 (9-7) in one hour, 33 minutes. The Australian will face former world No.1 Jelena Jankovic for a berth in the final of the $US3.645 million ($3.96m) event. Stosur squandered three match points serving at 6-3 in the second-set tiebreak before regaining her composure to set up a semi-final against former world No.1 Jelena Jankovic.

Drive around Fairfield County and you'll still find damaged homes and fallen trees brought down by Saturday's storm. One thing hard to find, however, is power. After 6 days, both residents and the Governor are sick of the dark.

The Governor told CL&P that she’s very frustrated with the amount of time it’s taken to get the lights back on   -Rich Harris

I would like to urge the federal government to consider a new stimulus bill – that would fund power lines being placed underground. A reason for the significant outages was because so many trees came down. If the power lines are placed underground, falling trees would not result in outages to a significant number of people.

It was a gorgeous Thursday across East Texas with sunny skies, light winds and highs in the middle 60s...still a little below normal for this time of year, but still nice nevertheless. Skies are clear during these late night hours...Temperatures will drop into the lower 40s for an average across the area by daybreak with some upper 30s in extreme eastern areas, but mid to upper 40s in some western areas thanks a slight increase in southeasterly winds. Friday will be another pretty nice day with some sun

Friday will not only will it be about 40 degrees colder, snow will develop around Denver then spread southward during Friday morning. The snow coupled with the wind will make travel quite difficult between Colorado Springs and Denver, Colorado Springs and Woodland Park, and Colorado Springs and Limon. Southern areas will also see snow and wind, with the heaviest snow likely falling southwest of Pueblo.

Trainer David Murphy will go against his better judgment and start Unica Bahaya from a horror outside barrier at Eagle Farm on Saturday. Murphy is hoping to get a winter carnival guide on the Piccolo filly who has drawn barrier 20 in the Iceworks Bar Paddington Handicap (1200m). The filly, who is part-owned by former top jockey Larry Olsen, was nominated for a restricted race at Randwick earlier this month but Murphy preferred to stay at home.

We nominated her for a race at Randwick recently but the money in the QTIS races here is too good to ignore   -David Murphy
